VERY IMPORTANT!! Special Educational Needs Survey

27th Jun 2023

We received a letter from Peter Boyd the SEND Transformation Programme Director at the Education Authority on Tuesday 27th June.  This is a very important survey that I ask you to take the time to complete as you maybe aware of the challenges facing the families of children with additional needs and also the impact of the budget cuts faced by school in providing the appropriate support which has been reported in the news in recent weeks.

This is a great opportunity to make your thoughts and experiences know and also the chance to share suggestions as to how you would like services to be delivered in the future.

This survey covers all aspects of Special Educational Needs not just Nursery school such as:

Speech & Language Support

Early Years Intervention

Special schools & units

Dyslexia support

The process of seeking help for your child from parents or schools.

Are you happy with the limit scale or support offered to your children?

A big concern currently is the time scale for the confirmation of placement for those children with a statement seeking a learning unit or special school setting.

Where is the location of the learning units and special schools? Are you able to get a local placement or required to travel?

The survey is live and will remain open until Sunday 6th August 12:00 PM

Copy of letter received:

Dear Principal,
The Education Authority (EA) would like for you, your staff and your parents and carers to take part in a
Northern Ireland-wide survey which is designed to gauge the satisfaction and confidence levels of all those
involved with SEND services in Northern Ireland before any changes are made by the SEND Transformation
Programme.

The objective of this survey is establishing a baseline so as changes are made throughout the lifecycle of
the programme, the survey can be re-distributed to gauge if the changes are making a positive, negative
or any impact at all.

We appreciate that the timing of this survey may not be ideal, however it is important that the programme
understands the current viewpoints to inform the change for all SEND services moving forward. We would
be grateful if you could facilitate the wider circulation to your staff, parents, carers and those you feel
have an invested interest in the SEND system in Northern Ireland.

The survey is live and will remain open until Sunday 6th August 12:00 PM. The survey can be found at the
following address: https://forms.office.com/e/aecE2hCXUX

Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us reach our service users.
Yours sincerely,
Peter Boyd
